Safety tips
Stay safe when dealing with brokers
PlugUG helps you find brokers. We don't check land titles, property or vehicles. Always do your own checks before paying anyone.
Four rules for any deal
See it in person
Visit the land, house or car before you pay anything, and meet in a public place.
Never pay to view
Real brokers show you property and cars first. Never pay a "viewing fee" or deposit to someone you have not met.
Pay with paperwork
Pay through a bank or with a written, witnessed agreement, and keep every receipt.
Stop if it feels wrong
Pressure to pay today, a price far below others, or a story that keeps changing are warning signs.
Land and homes
Four checks before you pay for land or a home
Search the title first
Check the land title at the Ministry of Lands (MLHUD) or the zonal office before you pay anything.
Visit with the LC1
Walk the plot with the area LC1 chairperson and neighbours to confirm boundaries and ownership.
Never pay a viewing fee
Real brokers show you property first. Do not send money to someone you have not met.
Pay with paperwork
Pay by bank with a written sale agreement, witnessed, and keep every receipt.
Cars
Four checks before you pay for a car
Check the logbook with URA
Confirm the logbook, owner and chassis number on the URA portal before paying.
Get a mechanic to inspect
Have your own mechanic check the car, not one the seller brings.
Agree duty in writing
For imports, put in writing who pays URA duty, clearing and transport.
No deposit to strangers
Never pay a deposit to someone you have not met in person.
What PlugUG checks, and what it doesn't
We check
- Brokers confirm their phone number with a one-time code ("Phone confirmed").
- Recommendations count once per phone number, confirmed by code.
- Our team reviews every new listing and every report.
- Paid placements are always labelled "Featured · Paid placement".
We don't check
- Land titles, ownership or boundaries.
- Houses, rentals or the condition of cars.
- Logbooks, import papers or URA duty.
- Anyone's identity papers or licences.
Something feel wrong?
Tell us about a broker who misled you or asked for money up front. We review every report.
